2011 Candidate-elections

Monday, 11 July 2011 09:47 Written by Graham Riddell

After having received a fantastic response to our leaflet explaining the functions and successes of the Community Council, we received 8 nominations for the Community Council.  One nominee has subsequently withdrawn so we now have 7 candidates.  As only 5 places were advertised we will have a ballot on Thursday 14th July 2011 from 4 till 8pm at Cardrona Village Hall for Cardrona residents only and at the Council Chamber at the Memorial Hall for Innerleithen and Traquair residents.  We encourage you to vote for up to 5 candidates of your choice.  More details of the candidates will be added soon to this page and they will also be displayed on posters on the Community Council noticeboards, shops, cafes and pubs.

Neil Andrew

I have retired recently having worked in engineering for a company closely associated with National Grid.  I have 2 grown up sons, one of whom lives in Melbourne, which satisfies my main hobby of travelling.  My other hobbies include DIY, gardening and since our move to Innerleithen my wife and I have enjoyed many of the walks in the area.  I am currently a member of the Civic Committee and I feel I could offer another voice on the community council with any local issues that may occur.  I am also aware of the close knit community spirit shown by the people of the town and would like to be considered as a member of the Innerleithen & District Community Council.

Neil Cummings

I am 43 years old and have been married to Cathie for 19 years.  We have a beautiful daughter Carys who is 14 years old.  We have been living in Cardrona for four years now and absolutely love it here.  I would be very grateful if you would consider voting for me as I am determined to represent you well.  I am passionate about improving our district for us and generations to come.  We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of Scotland and with your support my aim is to help keep it that way and to push for changes which would improve the prosperity and quality of life for us all.

Marshall Douglas

Innerleithen resident Marshall Douglas has lived in the town with his wife Lynda and their two children, Alasdair and Eilidh since 1982, during which time he has been very involved in both local and national issues covering a wide range of topics. An Accountant by profession, the former Regional Councillor is currently employed as Finance Director with a major Food Wholesale and Distribution company which operates throughout Scotland and Northern England.  Having raised his family in Innerleithen  Marshall believes that he has the necessary experience, local commitment and wide range of contacts to be a highly effective community councillor.
