Innerleithen makes for a great centre to pursue both road and forestry track cycling.
The 95 mile Tweed Cycle Way from Bigger to Berwick-upon-Tweed, follows an unclassified road east to Peel via Elibank off the B709 St Mary's Loch road, on its way through Traquair.
On the north of town, the B709 continues up through the Leithen valley and offers some challenging hill climbing. The route splits about 5 miles up either turning right onto Heriot, or continuing on the B7007 to meet the A7 south of Gorebridge, affording excellent panoramic views across Edinburgh and East Lothian.
